Despite all mediation efforts by the USA and the EU, relations between Serbia and Kosovo are more tense than they have been for years. In the past few weeks there have been repeated violent riots in northern Kosovo, where the majority of ethnic Serbs live. Washington warns that the current crisis could escalate into a “regional conflict”. At the same time, the EU is threatening Kosovo’s President Albin Kurti with sanctions.
