It was supposed to be a historic compromise that the EU and the US used to bring Serbia and Kosovo to an agreement in April 2013, but it is actually a historic mistake, the consequences of which continue to bounce back on the region. Instead of forcing Serbia to recognize Kosovo’s independence in return for EU membership, the EU – and the German government – promoted a rotten compromise.
