Konrad Kujau died on September 12, 2000. The star spoke to the man who once sold the magazine the fake Hitler diaries, for which the world should remember him.

Mr. Kujau, how long have you known about your serious illness?
I’ve had cancer since the early 80s, back then it was the larynx. Now it runs one floor down on the stomach. I actually never stopped thinking about this disease, even if the doctors told me about healing and the chances, they were all lies. Once a cancer, always a cancer. There is no escaping this disease, we know too little about that.
Are you afraid of death?
No, just from the pain. I hope that when the time comes, it will be quick and painless.
