Two years after basketball star Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash, his fans at the crash site near Los Angeles have unveiled a statue to honor their late idol. Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other people died in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. Created by artist Dan Medina, the bronze statue depicts Kobe and Gianna Bryant embracing. The artist says: “The reason I came today is because in my previous visits to this area I have never felt that anything was really done to honor the people who lost their lives. And this is my attempt to do things the right way.” On the statue’s steel base are the names of all nine victims of the crash. It also includes an inscription with Bryant’s famous quote: “Heroes come and go, but legends live forever.” Bryant, a five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, passed away at the age of 41. Gianna was only 13 years old. According to the investigation, the pilot of the helicopter lost his orientation before the crash near Los Angeles after falling into thick clouds.
