A 60-year-old woman died Thursday in Montcavrel, Pas-de-Calais. Her 5-year-old grandson is “in absolute urgency”. Both were mowed down by a car while riding a bicycle, we learned from the public prosecutor and the firefighters.
Driver “lost in thought”
The boy, transferred to the CHR of Lille, suffers “from a fracture of the pelvis and a cranial trauma”, indicated, to AFP, Philippe Sabatier, assistant prosecutor in Boulogne-sur-Mer. A 7-year-old granddaughter who was accompanying them, also on a bicycle, was unharmed but was treated in shock, he added.
The victims were mowed down from behind on Thursday afternoon, by a car which was traveling “a priori between 50 and 70 km/h”. The driver was “lost in thought”, pleads “a fault of inattention” and “did not realize it until he hit them”. He is 53 years old and has been taken into custody. No “trace of narcotics or alcohol” was detected, underlined the magistrate.
