A gold bracelet is for sale at “Bares for Rares”. Grandma and granddaughter are surprised by expertise and dealers.

This piece is a stunner: Denise Bertram and Maria Reske, granddaughter and grandmother from Cologne, come to “Bares for Rares” with a wide bracelet. “That comes from my mother. I’ve rarely worn it because it’s too pompous for me,” Reske told Horst Lichter on the ZDF junk show. But it would have been reckless to just wear the bracelet while shopping. Because it’s worth a handsome sum.

“It really is a very wide yellow gold cuff bracelet,” says “Bares for Rares” expert Heide Rezepa-Zabel. The braided pattern is made very interesting because the ribbons are wound. “This creates a herringbone pattern. A hard job.” The bracelet was made from 585 gold by a goldsmith in the 1950s. “There is no big name behind it and it is not unique.”

“Bares for Rares” expert does the math

Maria Reske would like 4,000 euros for the hereditary jewelry. “That is the pain threshold,” says the pensioner. Moderator Horst Lichter is skeptical. The expert Rezepa-Zabel does the math: “The gold value alone is already 3700 euros.” There is a surcharge for the workmanship and the good condition: “I would go to 4000 to 4400 here.” But are the dealers willing to pay that much?

In the dealer room, there is initially a lot of guesswork: How heavy is the bracelet? Wolfgang Pauritsch is closest with an estimated 120 grams. “A great piece with a high recognition value”, praises Susanne Steiger. And even Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz is enthusiastic: “a blast.” Pauritsch starts with 3500 euros, but the bids are skyrocketing. Julian Schmitz-Avila and Steiger engage in a bidding war. The jewelry goes to Schmitz-Avila for 4700.

Grandma and granddaughter are happy. Neither of them had expected that their visit to “Bares for Rares” would be such a success. “I still told her. She should be prepared for less,” says Denise Bertram. They were both surprised by the dealers.
