Klara Geywitz in Helsinki: How the Finns are fighting homelessness

Finland has hardly any homeless people. Klara Geywitz wants to go on a trip to find out whether the Scandinavian recipe can be transferred to Germany.

“Home” is written on Petri Olavimyllynen’s doormat. Actually not unusual, but in this place at this time it almost seems as if it was placed especially for the guests. Olavimyllynen has lived here since August, wearing a cap that says “Suomi”, Finland in Finnish. In his apartment he has installed blue light that indirectly illuminates the television. A bicycle stands in the entrance, a chain of lights lies decoratively on the table.

Before Olavimyllynen moved here, the Finn didn’t have an apartment. He lived in a homeless shelter for seven years. He volunteered to show his apartment today. He’s proud of it.
