Kirchheimer Oval will be rebuilt in 2023 – District of Munich

The municipality of Kirchheim is currently like a major construction site: the grammar school and town hall are growing, between the main town and the district of Heimstetten there are wide areas of gravel and the first trees have been planted, where the park for the State Garden Show 2024 will soon blossom. Again and again, citizens accept impairments caused by road closures. However, the disabilities are not in vain, as Mayor Maximilian Böltl (CSU) showed on Wednesday evening in the Kirchheim citizens’ meeting using the example of Heimstettener Straße.

So far, the road has been a “much too wide racetrack” right next to several schools. It has therefore been under construction since the summer, and according to Böltl, the blockage should be lifted in mid-December. The new road should be safer than before: Based on the so-called Copenhagen model, the roadway will be divided into separate areas for pedestrians, cyclists and car traffic. Slight height gradations create a clear separation.

The next lockdown is already pending. According to Böltl, the Kirchheimer Oval on state road 2082 will probably be rebuilt over the course of the coming year. However, the mayor has not yet given an exact time. The plans are tied to the progress of work on the bridge over the motorway between Aschheim and Kirchheim, which is currently still closed. As Böltl explained, it is imperative to avoid that the two important connections are not passable at the same time.

The oval is to become a major intersection with a traffic light and multiple turning lanes to allow traffic to flow more easily. In order to enable cyclists and pedestrians to cross safely, a bridge should lead over the state road.
