Kingsley Ben-Adir becomes a reggae icon: In a biopic, the Brit will embody the Jamaican singer Bob Marley, who died in 1981.

Kingsley Ben-Adir (35) will play the legendary reggae artist Bob Marley (1945-1981) in a biopic. This is reported by the US industry portal “Variety”. “King Richard” director Reinaldo Marcus Green will direct the still unnamed biopic. He is once again working with screenwriter Zach Baylin.

The music film will focus on Marley’s life and career, details of the content are not yet available. What is certain is that it will be filmed with the support of Marley’s family. His son Ziggy Marley (53), daughter Cedella Marley (54) and widow Rita Marley (75) will serve as producers on behalf of Tuff Gong.

Kingsley Ben-Adir already played an icon

Bob Marley is known as the “King of Reggae”. Unforgotten are songs like “No Woman, No Cry” (1974), “Redemption Song” (1980) or “Get Up, Stand Up” (1973). Fans still worship him for his music and lyrics to this day. He is a symbolic figure for the criticism of social and political grievances and for the religion of the Rastafari. He died on May 11, 1981 at the age of 36 after suffering from cancer. He gave his last concert in September 1980 in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania).

Kingsley Ben-Adir most recently starred in the film drama “One Night in Miami” about four famous African-American icons and embodied the civil rights activist Malcolm X. He also became ex-US President Barack Obama (60) for the mini-series “The Comey Rule”. and was seen in the crime series “Vera – A Very Special Case” or the Netflix series “The OA”.
