Many people already suspected when Czech developer Warhorse Studios teased the announcement of a new game last week that it would be the successor to Kingdom Come: Deliverance. This was so far the only game from the developer, which belongs to the German media group Plaion, and is now being supplemented by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
What is known so far
Fans can look forward to the action role-playing game later this year, as the release is scheduled to take place sometime at the end of the current year. Then Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be released for PC and the current-gen consoles Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Since the release of the first part, the number of developers at Warhorse has more than doubled. While 110 people worked on Kingdom Come: Deliverance, there are already 250 people working on the second part.
As is often the case with sequels, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 picks up the events of the first part and picks up where the predecessor ended. The players immerse themselves in the early 15th century in Bohemia and slip into the role of the protagonist and blacksmith’s son Henry, who sets out to avenge his murdered parents. To illustrate this, the developers, as they explain, have significantly increased the running time of the cinematics compared to its predecessor. This should now be over five hours.
Henry’s story takes him from aspiring warrior to rebel, crossing paths with a cast of charismatic characters and adventuring as he faces off against the King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, and his fearsome allies. On two new maps that will be twice as large as in the previous game, players can explore Bohemia, with Trosky Castle and the silver mining town of Kutná Hora (a Unesco World Heritage Site).
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which is again being developed with the Cryengine, the developers have also revised the combat system. Players can try their hand at first-person sword fights or ranged combat, such as with the newly added crossbow or early black powder weapons. Ultimately, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also delivers the “true RPG experience”: players can customize their character’s appearance, equipment and skills as they wish.
