Between glamor and angry protest: King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands are currently visiting South Africa.

A radiant outfit for a day with a moment of shock: Queen Máxima of the Netherlands (52) appeared in her usual elegant outfit on the third day of her state visit to South Africa. The 52-year-old wore a white, knee-length dress from the Natan label with a bright red floral design when she was out and about with her husband King Willem-Alexander (56). Things were apparently very busy on Friday (October 20th).

Because not everyone in South Africa is happy about the royal visit from Europe: When the Dutch royal couple visited the “Iziko Slave Lodge”, a museum on the history of slavery in Cape Town, they then came across according to the newspaper “De Telegraaf” on “angry demonstrators”. Máxima and Willem-Alexander had to be escorted to the car by security forces.

This is still on the agenda for Máxima and Willem-Alexander

According to the report, this Friday the King and Queen want to deal with the endangered flora and fauna of South Africa and meet the Dutch community in Cape Town. The three-day state visit ends with a reception on Friday evening.

On Wednesday, the Dutch royals arrived in Pretoria for their state visit, where they received President Cyril Ramaphosa (70). The focus of Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander’s trip should be strengthening relations and partnership between the Netherlands and South Africa. Topics included cultural cooperation, human rights and the exchange of knowledge and research. According to media reports, the then Queen Beatrix (85) last visited South Africa in 1996 at the invitation of President Nelson Mandela (1918-2013). The now 85-year-old handed over the office to her son Willem-Alexander in April 2013.
