For many music fans he is the greatest pop star of all time: Michael Jackson. Filming for a film about the singer is now beginning. The main role should be played by a family member.

Filming for a biopic about a pop star Michael Jackson are scheduled to begin later this month. Lionsgate and Universal Pictures have now announced this. According to the studios, the film “Michael” will be released in cinemas worldwide in April 2025, as reported by the industry publications “Variety” and “Hollywood Reporter”.

US director Antoine Fuqua (58, “Training Day”, “The Equalizer”) announced plans for his biopic about the “King of Pop” last year. The main actor is the nephew of the singer, who died in 2009, Jaafar Jackson (27), the son of musician Jermaine Jackson. The screenplay comes from author John Logan (“Gladiator”, “James Bond 007: Specter”, “Alien: Covenant”). British star producer Graham King (“Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Aviator”) and the singer’s family are on board with the project.

According to Lionsgate, the film will shed light on Jackson’s entire life. With hits like “Billie Jean”, “Beat It” and “Thriller”, he was one of the most famous singers in the world. His eccentric lifestyle and allegations of abuse later tarnished his image. The pop star, who appeared on stage with his siblings as a child, died in 2009 at the age of 50.
