King Mohammed VI reappears at the bedside of disaster victims

He had been silent and discreet since the earthquake which left 2,901 dead and 5,530 injured. King Mohammed VI of Morocco visited on Tuesday those injured in the disaster that struck the country, in a hospital in the tourist city of Marrakech, the official MAP agency said.

The king went to the Marrakech university hospital center where he “inquired about the state of health of the injured”, before donating blood, according to the agency.

A first public appearance

Mohammed VI “visited the intensive care unit and the hospitalization unit for earthquake victims” where he “learned about the state of health of the injured people as well as the care provided to them,” added the MAP. He then greeted the crowd through his car window, reports France Infohis first public appearance since Friday evening.

The king chaired a meeting in Rabat on Saturday devoted to examining the situation after the earthquake and aid measures for the affected populations.
