King Charles has addressed the English women’s national football team with encouraging words after missing the World Cup victory.

After the World Cup defeat in the final against Spain, King Charles III. (74) sent words of encouragement and appreciation to the England women’s soccer team. In a statement on the royal website, the monarch expressed his admiration for the performance of the British team under coach Sarina Wiegman (53). The fact that the team reached the final was a “great recognition of the ability, determination and team spirit” of the team, writes Charles.

The British Royals mourn the missed World Cup victory

“I express my sincere sympathy and condolences to you, your coach and the entire team on the outcome of the World Cup final. I know it hurts a lot, but none of you should feel like a loser,” said the 74-year-old. The performance of the British team at the World Cup was “an inspiration for future generations – it will ensure you a place in the history books”.

At the end of the statement, Charles also congratulated the Spanish national football team, which won the final of the Women’s World Cup on Sunday. He also thanked “above all the people in Australia and New Zealand for hosting such a wonderful tournament”.

Sweden is happy about bronze

While the British royals mourn the missed victory, the Swedish royal family is happy about third place at the women’s football World Cup. On Instagram the Swedish heir to the throne family posted congratulations to the team that beat Australia in the third place game on Saturday.

Not only Crown Princess Victoria (46) and her husband Prince Daniel (49) seem to have followed the Swedish team’s games. A photo of Princess Estelle (11) and Prince Oscar (7) in yellow football shirts reads: “The Crown Princess family congratulates the Swedish team after yesterday’s bronze.”
