King Charles III, who was suffering from cancer. does not attend public appointments. He also only speaks to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak by telephone.

King Charles III (75) will not be attending public appointments for the time being after learning of his cancer and on the advice of his doctors. A regular audience with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (43) will not take place in person, at least this week – but by telephone. This is reported by “Sky News”.

The king’s weekly meeting with the prime minister, which focuses on government matters, usually takes place in person. However, after Charles has already started treatment as part of his cancer diagnosis, the king and the politician initially only speak to each other by telephone.

“We are not in the habit of commenting on the Prime Minister’s discussions with the King and will not do so in the future,” said a spokesman for Sunak. “But we have agreed with the palace to confirm in this particular case that they will speak on the phone later.” According to the report, it is unclear whether this is a one-off exception or King Charles III. will only speak to Sunak by telephone in the coming weeks.

“I know the whole country wishes him well”

Sunak, along with numerous other politicians, contacted Charles via social media after the diagnosis became known. “I wish His Majesty a full and speedy recovery,” he wrote on the platform “X”. He has no doubt that Charles will soon be back to full strength “and I know that the whole country wishes him well.”

The palace announced on February 5th that Charles should not take on any public tasks during treatment, but that he would continue to take care of state business in the background. He is currently said to be staying at the Sandringham estate with his wife, Queen Camilla (76), to recover from treatment.

Prince William back in action

It is expected that Camilla and in particular heir to the throne Prince William (41) will take on a large part of Charles’ public tasks during this time. William recently took a break to look after his wife and their children – Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (8) and Prince Louis (5). Princess Kate (42) recently underwent abdominal surgery and will probably not appear in public again until after Easter. Meanwhile, William presented over 50 honors at Windsor Castle this Wednesday and is due to give a speech at a fundraising gala in the evening.
