King Charles is hard at work, new photos show. After his time off due to cancer, he has been fulfilling his duties since the beginning of the week.

King Charles III (75) returned to work after taking time off because of his cancer diagnosis. He had already met with British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt (57) on Tuesday (March 5). The photos released by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday evening show a happy monarch at three other meetings. First there was apparently a video call with Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (52).

“This afternoon, His Majesty the King had an audience with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which took place via video link,” the palace wrote alongside the image of Charles sitting at his table, with the screen with the Canadian on it in front of him. Also visible at the king’s workplace: some documents and pens.

King Charles III attends further personal appointments

Two other photos show the monarch in personal meetings including shaking hands with ambassadors. The social media team explains in the caption: “The King received the ambassadors of Algeria and Mauritania at Buckingham Palace today. Noureddine Yazid and Samba Mamadou Ba presented His Majesty with their ‘letters of credence’ – formal letters from their heads of state mark the beginning of their operations in the UK.”

On these dates the king wore a festive tailcoat.

Charles continued to work behind the scenes

Last month, the 75-year-old was diagnosed with cancer, prompting him to withdraw from public engagements. In the past few weeks, King Charles had not taken on any official appointments, but was said to be continuing to work behind the scenes.

Since the announcement of the diagnosis, the monarch has been seen again and again, for example when attending the Sunday service in Sandringham. However, family members – especially his wife Camilla (76) – represented him at official appointments.

Princess Kate is still out

Charles was treated at the same clinic as his daughter-in-law Princess Kate, 42, who also underwent abdominal surgery in January. Since then she has not attended any appointments either. She last appeared on December 25th at the traditional Christmas service in Sandringham. Since then there have only been paparazzi pictures showing Kate next to her mother in a car. The US portal “TMZ” published it.
