A second coronation stands for King Charles III. in Edinburgh. At the beginning of July he is to receive the Scottish crown jewels there.

King Charles III (74) and Queen Camilla (75) will be crowned a second time in the summer. How the British “Hello” magazine reports, there will be a dedication and thanksgiving service as part of their Edinburgh trip at the beginning of July. They will be presented with the Scottish Crown Jewels. Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) also traveled to Edinburgh shortly after her coronation in 1953.

Investiture ceremony on July 5th?

The royal couple will be in the Scottish capital for Holyrood Week in the first week of July. The monarch’s first Scottish garden party of his reign is scheduled for July 4th. As “Hello” suspects, the investiture ceremony at St. Giles Cathedral could then take place on July 5th.

The Cathedral on the Royal Mile is the main church of the Church of Scotland. While the 6 May coronation in London was a Church of England service, the St Giles ceremony gives the monarch a chance to devote himself to his Scottish subjects. During the service, the King is presented with the Scottish Crown Jewels, known as the “Honors of Scotland”. These are the oldest surviving crown jewels in Great Britain. They date from the mid-16th century. During the coronation service, the Scottish crown, sword of state and scepter are used.

Special connection to St. Giles Cathedral

St. Giles Cathedral has a special meaning for the royal family. The Queen’s coffin was first laid out here after she died on September 8, 2022 in Balmoral, Scotland. King Charles and his siblings held the vigil before the coffin was taken to London.
