In 2018, Kim Cattrell’s little brother took his own life. She will remember him on his 59th birthday. And promotes suicide prevention.

Kim Cattrall (65) remembers her late brother Christopher. To his birthday the actress posted an old picture of the two on Twitter. “Today would have been the 59th birthday of my little brother Chris. Happy birthday, sweet ‘Topher’. We miss you today and every day,” wrote the “Sex and the City” star of the photo. She also added a hashtag with the title “Suicide Prevention”. Christopher Cattrall took his own life in February 2018.

Kim Cattrall reported her brother missing in early February 2018 after he was not found in his apartment in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada for several days. On Twitter, she called on her fans to help her find it.

More openness about depression

Just hours later, Cattrall had to announce the death of her brother. “It is with great sadness that my family and I announce the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Chris Cattrall.”

In the summer of 2019, the actress made the first statement about a death and confirmed that it was suicide. Her brother suffered from depression, of which she and her family had no idea.

Since the death of her brother, it has been a concern of Cattrall to remove taboos from the subjects of depression and suicide. “Suicide is hard to talk about, and I also believe that in our society today, we are not very good at dealing with grief,” she said. “But since we lost Chris, so many people have spoken privately about the loss of family members or friends, and you realize that suicide is an epidemic. We just don’t talk about it.”
