Kim Cattrall (65) has spoken about the reasons behind her departure from the “Sex and the City” universe. The Samantha Jones actress has made it clear several times that she will be done with the series and her character after the second film. In an interview with “Variety” she has now revealed that she was also “never asked” to be part of the spin-off “And Just Like That…”.
“I made my position clear on the possibility of a third film, so I found out about it like everyone else – through social media,” said Cattrall. In her opinion, the new episodes would simply pick up on the ideas of the third film – “It was that creative,” says Cattrall.
For her character Samantha, Cattrall wanted a different development for the third film, which was never made, for example that she had to sell her PR company “to a young guy in a hoodie” – “that would have been a much better generation gap”. . Instead, the script said she was getting penis pictures from Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon, 56) 14-year-old son Brady. “It broke my heart,” Cattrall said.
Her co-stars were just colleagues to her
A voice told Cattrall after the production of the second film, “I’m done.” She never saw friends in her co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker (57), Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis (57). “I think we were colleagues. My colleagues are not my friends. It was professional.”
She didn’t see the episodes of “And Just Like That…” she only heard about the content. The fact that the spin-off is about Samantha despite Cattrall’s absence is “strange” for her: “I don’t know how I should feel about it.”
