Frédéric Sinistra, kickboxing star and former world champion, passed away at the age of 40. In November he became infected with the coronavirus and had to be hospitalized. It is not entirely clear whether he died from the virus.

He was known as the “strongest man in Belgium”. As the Belgian media unanimously report, the kickboxing star Frédéric Sinistra died in mid-December at the age of 40 as a result of a corona infection. The newspaper “Sudpresse” named acute shortness of breath as the cause. Sinistra’s wife confirmed the death report with a post on Instagram, but at the same time emphasized that her husband had not died of the corona virus.

Sinistra himself was considered a corona denier. He is said to have refused to utter the words “Corona” and “Covid”. In addition, he did not believe in the virus.

The athlete became infected with the virus in November. At the urging of his trainer, Sinistra finally went to the hospital. Pictures on Instagram suggest that the kickboxer suffered a severe course. However, there is no mention of an infection with the coronavirus in the message below the picture. Instead, Sinistra wrote that “a number of diseases” were attacking his lungs. The inflammation value is far above the norm. But: “A warrior never abdicates! I will come back even stronger and thank you all already now for your support.”

Three days later, Sinistra posted another picture. Underneath, he thanked one more time for the support. He also wrote that he was feeling better and better. Contrary to medical advice, the athlete is said to have released himself from the hospital in order to treat himself with an oxygen bottle at home. He died of acute shortness of breath three weeks later.

Sinistra’s wife thanked the fans on Instagram for their support, but rejected the assumption that her husband had died of Covid-19. “He would never have accepted that what happened to him was meant to spread fear and promote the vaccination.”
