Russian offensive in Kupyansk claims lives

According to Ukrainian sources, the Russian offensive is currently focused on the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed there by attacks. Fierce fighting is also raging in Sumy, in which at least one person has died.
Several people were killed and injured by Russian shelling in Ukraine. In the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region in the east of the country, a resident was killed by Russian attacks on Saturday, the local prosecutor told Telegram. Another person was killed and one injured in the shelling of Dvorichna in the Kupyansk area, it said.
According to the military administration of the Sumy region in the north-east of the country, several towns were shelled with artillery or helicopters on Saturday. According to preliminary findings, at least one person was killed and four others injured in the town of Krasnopil, it said. Several houses and a gas line were also damaged. In another community in the area, two people were injured as a result of an attack with a drone.
The information could not be independently verified. Last week, the Ukrainian military said the Russian army had launched an offensive in the Kupyansk area of the Kharkiv region in order to break through the Ukrainian lines. A press officer from the Ukrainian army spoke on television of an alleged 100,000 men that Russia had massed on the Kupyansk and Lyman front sectors.
Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maljar also reports on Telegram about the attacks by large Russian contingents in the Kupyansk sector. “We are defending ourselves. Heavy fighting is going on and the positions of both sides are dynamically changing several times a day,” she wrote. Maljar had already admitted on Sunday that Ukraine was on the defensive in this region.
In the Sumy region, the Ukrainian army ordered the population of the region’s border districts to flee at the end of June because of constant Russian shelling. Russia has been waging a war of aggression against the neighboring country for almost 17 months. A Ukrainian counter-offensive is currently underway. Especially in the southern Zaporizhia region and in the eastern Donetsk region, Ukrainian units are trying to break through the Russian defense lines.
