Matt Gaetz topples Kevin McCarthy
McCarthy himself was already pessimistic on Tuesday morning. “If just five Republicans vote with the Democrats, I’m out,” he calculated.
In the end, there were even eight colleagues who voted for dismissal – led by the extreme right-wing Florida MP Matt Gaetz. McCarthy’s opponents primarily include members of the extremely conservative Freedom Caucus.
