Ken Follett makes a new donation to restore the cathedral of Dol-de-Bretagne

In love with France and its heritage, Ken Follett literally fell in love with the Saint-Samson cathedral in Dol-de-Bretagne in Ille-et-Vilaine. Listed as a historical monument since 1984, this jewel of Gothic architecture has however deteriorated over the years.

To restore the religious building, the British writer, author of classics like The pillars of the earth, The fall of the giants Or An endless worldhad made a donation of 148,000 euros in 2021 by donating all the copyrights of his story Our Lady. At the end of April, Ken Follett renewed his support for the Breton municipality by making a new donation of 27,600 euros, we learned this Friday from the Heritage Foundation.

A project that amounts to more than 2.5 million euros

The money raised should make it possible to continue the restoration project started in 2019. The work to be carried out concerning the frame which is subject to water infiltration, the stone balustrades, the windows and the roof of the chapel. They should end in 2014 according to the heritage foundation.

In addition to donations from the British writer, 31,126 euros were collected online from patrons to finance this long project which amounts to more than 2.5 million euros.
