Keanu Reeves joins the “Sonic” universe. The “Matrix” star voices Shadow in the third part of the video game adaptation.

Keanu Reeves (59) becomes a hedgehog for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. As “Variety” reported, the superstar will take on a speaking role in the third part of the video game adaptation. A source confirmed this to the industry magazine. According to Variety, there is no official statement from the production company Paramount Pictures yet.

This is Sonic’s nemesis Shadow

Keanu Reeves will play the role of Shadow. According to his name, he is something like the shadow of the title hero in the Sonic video games. Visually, Shadow resembles the blue alien hedgehog, except that his fur is black. He is also physically a bit stronger than Sonic.

Shadow first appeared in the game “Sonic Adventure 2”, which was released in 2001 for the Sega Dreamcast. Over several games, Shadow was built up to be Sonic’s equal adversary. However, he is not a purely evil figure, but rather an anti-hero. In 2005 he was given his own game, “Shadow the Hedgehog,” in which his backstory is revealed.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3”: Jim Carrey is there after all

In “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” Ben Schwartz (42) will once again voice the title character. In the German versions of the first two parts, YouTuber Julian Bam (35) dubbed the blue hedgehog. Jim Carrey (62) returns as a human actor for part three. He once again embodies the villain Dr. Robotnik. The comedian was therefore untrue to his announcement that he would retire after “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” (2022).

Shadow is not the first speaking role for Keanu Reeves. He lent his voice to Batman in “DC League of Super-Pets” and voiced Duke Caboom in “A Toy Story: Everything Doesn’t Listen to Commands”.
