Sarah Burton, the designer of Princess Kate’s wedding dress, is leaving Alexander McQueen after more than 25 years.

fashion designer Sarah Burton (born 1974) designed the wedding dress for Kate Middleton (41), now the Princess of Wales. After 26 years, the fashion designer is now leaving the British luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen, where she started as an intern in 1997 and has worked as creative director since 2010. The luxury label announced this on Monday.

“We would like to express our deep gratitude to Sarah for writing such an important chapter in the history of Alexander McQueen,” quotes, among others, “The Guardian” Alexander McQueen CEO Gianfilippo Testa. “Sarah’s contributions over the past 26 years will leave an indelible mark.” Burton’s “extraordinary vision and creativity” was also praised.

It has also been confirmed that her Spring/Summer 2024 show on September 30th in Paris will be her last.

“I’m so proud of everything I’ve done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen,” said Burton herself on her farewell. “I look forward to the future and my next chapter and will always carry this precious time with me.”

A “new creative organization” for the house will be announced in due course, it said. Sarah Burton took over the management of the company when the brand’s founder, Lee Alexander McQueen (1969-2010), committed suicide at the age of 40.
