At the end of the 19th century, on the west side of Sonnenstrasse between Schwanthalerstrasse and Landwehrstrasse, was the Hotel Trefler, a well-respected building, famous for its “Concert Hall”, which, with its high glass windows, provided a representative setting for events of all kinds. On July 7, 1897, the Bavarian courier, a Catholic-conservative Munich newspaper, by a guest who caused quite a stir. “He is of medium height and strong build,” writes the correspondent of the courier. “The head, which tapers downwards, shows a broad forehead indicating strength of will.”
