This morning Karin Prien put on the necklace with the Star of David. Over the black turtleneck sweater so that the star cannot be missed. She is not a “chain person,” says Prien. The CDU politician prefers things to be more straightforward. She rarely wears jewelry. But these are special times in which wearing the Jewish symbol has become a declaration against hatred and fear. And a test of courage.
