Kangaroo Willi escaped from Hof Zoo – Bavaria

Hof Zoo has been missing Willi the kangaroo since the weekend. The animal has been spotted several times since then, a police spokesman said on Tuesday. “It has not yet been possible to capture it.” Several media outlets had previously reported on it.

The zoo wrote on Instagram that the gray-brown male kangaroo Willi was no longer in the enclosure on Saturday morning. How the approximately 70 centimeter tall animal was able to leave the zoo is still being clarified. “Since the animal lives on leaves and grass, it is currently not in danger of starvation; only the predators in nature could pose a threat to it.”

The zoo in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, asked anyone who sees the kangaroo to just watch it from a distance and call the police. “Please refrain from searching on your own, this would only cause the animal further unnecessary stress.”

Escaped kangaroos have been reported in Bavaria from time to time in recent years. Most recently, the male kangaroo Toni escaped from the enclosure of a hotel in the Bavarian Forest in the summer. After several weeks, the owners were finally able to lure him back into his enclosure with a trail of treats.
