Kandinsky “The Colorful Life” -Restitution – Culture

“The Colorful Life”, a major work by Wassily Kandinsky, hangs in Munich’s Lenbachhaus. Now it could be returned.

A major work by Wassily Kandinsky, “The Colorful Life” from 1907, is to be restituted to the heirs of its Jewish previous owners, the Lewenstein family from Amsterdam. That’s it the recommendation of the Advisory Commission on Nazi-looted property to the Bayerische Landesbank, which bought the painting more than 50 years ago and has since made it available on loan to the Lenbachhaus in Munich. However, Bayern-LB has not yet agreed to the restitution. A spokesman only said that the Landesbank had taken note of the Commission’s recommendation and would “take this into account in its decision on how to proceed”.
