Kamila Valieva thanks her coaches around Eteri Tutberidze via Instagram: “You are absolute champions”

“They not only train, but also teach us to overcome ourselves, which not only helps in sport but also in life,” Valieva continued: “With them by my side, I feel safe and able to face any test to pass. Thank you for helping me to be strong.”

In another post, Valieva thanked everyone “who was by my side during this difficult time. Who stood by my side and didn’t let me lose heart, who sent me supportive messages, who just thought of me, who prayed, who believed in me.”

She thanks “my fans, my family and friends, my coaches, the entire ROC team, my country and the people around the world. I will always remember, be grateful to you and skate for you.”

Due to suspected doping, Valieva was only allowed to take part in the Olympic individual decision with reservations. The European Champion, who was in first place after the short program, couldn’t stand the pressure in the freestyle and fell back to fourth place.

Tutberidze criticized after a questionable scene

Tutberidze (47) was then scolded as an “ice witch”. The trainer, who is known for her drill, only hinted at hugging her student, didn’t find a word of comfort, but shouted at her: “Why did you let it out of your hands? Tell me!”

President Thomas Bach of the International Olympic Committee was shocked: “When I saw how Kamila Valieva was received by her entourage, it seemed so cold. It was frightening.”

The banned metabolism modulator trimetazidine was discovered in a Valieva doping test on December 25. However, the sample was only evaluated on February 8 – one day after the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) won Valieva in the team competition. The medals in this competition were not awarded because of the unsolved case in Beijing.
