Kahn responds to criticism from Bayern fans

FC Bayern Munich fans vented their frustration with the current management of the club in the Champions League game against Manchester City (1-1).

In the closing stages of the game, the south stand presented a huge banner. There you can read: “Goals may be missed – not values of the association! Question management policy!”

The fans were obviously alluding to the dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann, whose release was justified by jeopardizing the goals of the season. Above all, the way in which the dismissal took place pissed off many supporters.

Already after the kick-off there was a smaller banner in which Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic were pilloried. “Brazzo + Kahn: Heroes of yesteryear, whistles of today” it said there.

FC Bayern: Rare criticism of the club management

The campaign is also noteworthy because concrete criticism of the managers in the club has recently been rare at Bayern. Most of the fans’ protests were directed against general issues such as the 50+1 rule or Qatar Airways’ sponsorship.

“It doesn’t mean much to me. I played here for 14 years. If you don’t achieve your goals at Bayern, it happens very quickly. Then the criticism comes up, you have to accept that. I have to deal with it. I’m also a very reflective person,” said Oliver Kahn to the banners after the game.

Salihamidzic also reacted to the banners in the south curve: “We question ourselves every day, 24/7. You have to live with criticism because the results aren’t there. Nevertheless, I stand there with a lot of confidence because I see the team that we are have.”
