Nine months after the Palme d’OrAnatomy of a fall at the Cannes Film Festival and six months after its theatrical release, Justine Triet’s film was again rewarded at the Golden Globes, the foreign press awards ceremony in Hollywood, for best screenplay and best language film. foreign. New successes which, finally, earned the director the congratulations of Emmanuel Macron.
“ Proud to see French cinema rewarded at the Golden Globes », wrote this Monday January 8 the Head of State in a message published on X, formerly Twitter. And to add, soberly: “ Congratulations to Justine Triet, the actors and the entire team of the film Anatomy of a fall. »
Since the release of the film, which brilliantly retraces the legal journey of a news item, Justine Triet has not really attracted the sympathies of the government. During her speech in Cannes, after receiving the Palme d’Or, the director castigated the ” commodification of culture that the neoliberal government defends ” at the expense of ” the French cultural exception without which (it would) not be here before you today “.
Pension reform and cultural exception
“This year, the country was crossed by a historic, extremely powerful, unanimous protest against pension reform (…) This protest was denied and repressed in a shocking way”also regretted Justine Triet, as you can see belowwhich earned him criticism from Rima Abdul-Malak, the Minister of Culture.
The latter had in fact said to herself “ stunned » with a speech that she described as “ unfair “. “ This film could not have seen the light of day without our French model of cinema financing which allows for unique diversity in the world. Let’s not forget it », The minister said in particular, omitting in passing the words of the filmmaker on the support she received to put together her film.
Even more upset than his Culture colleague, the Minister for Industry Roland Lescure, for his part, deplored Justine Triet’s Cannes speech, explaining that he saw in it the ” Anatomy of the ingratitude of a profession that we help so much… And of an art that we love so much! »
In the same vein, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne initially explained that she would not go see Anatomy of a fallevoking a “ blocking » facing the film and recognizing having been “ upset » in the words of the director. She ended up returning to these words in October, burying the hatchet on the BFMTV set by declaring: “I’m going to see this film, obviously, which looks excellent. »
Emmanuel Macron, before this Monday, had not had the slightest word (or tweet) for Justine Triet, yet only the third woman to receive the Palme d’Or. In total, France has only received this prize eleven times in its 66 years of existence. A presidential silence which has been repeatedly denounced by the head of state’s political opponents.
