The march for Adama Traoré will not take place, for the first time in seven years. The Cergy-Pontoise administrative court validated, Friday, June 7, the ban on this event scheduled for Saturday in Persan and Beaumont-sur-Oise, in tribute to this 24-year-old black man who died during an arrest in 2016. The Val-d’Oise prefecture had taken this decision the day before, in view of the context of the riots following the death of Nahel, killed during a police check in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).
The Adama committee, led by his sister Assa Traoré, had filed an interim order to challenge this ban before the administrative justice. “For seven years, after each march, the prefecture has been satisfied with the way the Adama committee has managed the event. Why this mistrust today?” the Adama committee wondered before the announcement of the ban.
Justice evokes a “risk of disturbing public order”
At midday on Thursday, the prefecture announced “consider” banning the event on the grounds of possible “serious public order disturbances” with the coming of“disturbing elements” at this demonstration, which Nahel’s mother was likely to attend.
On Friday evening, the administrative court found that, “although the violence has diminished in recent days, its extremely recent character does not allow us to assume that any risk of disturbing public order has disappeared”. In the process, the prefecture asked the Adama committee “to respect this court decision and to call publicly not to go to the scene”.
At the end of the evening on Friday, Assa Traoré, sister of Adama Traoré and member of the Adama Committee, announced her intention to maintain the demonstration, while moving the meeting place, now fixed on the Place de la République, in Paris. , 15 hours.
