A musician is said to have tried to poison his 93-year-old mother in a retirement home in Hanover and two orchestra colleagues with rat poison. The accused denied the allegations.

A musician from the Schleswig-Holstein Symphony Orchestra denied in court that he was taking his mother and two colleagues with him wanted to kill rat poison. According to the indictment, the 62-year-old German is said to have mixed the poison in his 93-year-old mother’s food in a retirement home in Hanover in early September 2022. On a concert tour, he is said to have given the two orchestra colleagues – a man and a woman – a garlic dip mixed with the poison Brodifacoum.

The 62-year-old is accused of attempted murder of three people. The prosecution considers the murder criterion of malice met. The accused rejected the allegations at the start of the trial before the Hanover Regional Court on Monday. He stated through his lawyer that he had not tried to kill his beloved mother or his best friends. On the second day of the trial in two weeks, he will comment comprehensively. The 62-year-old has been in custody for almost six months.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the victims had suffered from blood clotting disorders from which they could have died. The court has scheduled nine more days of hearings until the end of September.
