Justice investigates possible King’s Cup match rigging involving Levante

More than a year after being disputed, a King’s Cup match is in the sights of Spanish justice. This is indeed investigating what could be a match-fixing, as La Liga announced on Thursday. The suspicious match saw Levante, then in La Liga, win 0-8 in December 2021 at CD Huracan Melilla, a small fifth division amateur club.

La Liga brought these potential infractions to the attention of the national police after receiving an anonymous report, as the Spanish Professional Football League clarified in a press release. As part of this investigation, six people, including a former CD Huracan player, were heard by the Melilla court. Thursday’s statement adds that the investigation is continuing.
