The Rennes Court of Appeal has canceled the indictment for involuntary homicide of the former prefect of Loire-Atlantique, Claude d’Harcourt, after the death in 2019 of Steve Maia Caniço in Nantes during the Music Festival, has announced, Friday, October 28, the prosecution of the Breton capital, in a press release.

The former official is granted assisted witness status, the prosecution said. The indictment of the former sub-prefect, Johann Mougenot, is confirmed.

Steve Maia Caniço, 24-year-old extracurricular animator, had disappeared after a police operation intended to stop an electro evening on the banks of the Loire during the Music Festival. Seven people had fallen into the river during the nighttime police intervention, according to the General Administration Inspectorate (IGA), not to mention Steve Maia Caniço, whose body will not be found until July 29.
