It’s a blow to the strong man of Mayotte. The administrative court of Mamoudzou on Monday canceled the election in the Sada canton of Mansour Kamardine, LR deputy for the 2nd district and figure in local politics, after noting irregularities in the register of signatures
The court explains that it found differences in the signatures of 57 voters between the first and second rounds of this ballot, which was held last June. Mansour Kamardine and his partner, Tahamida Ibrahim – also vice-president of the departmental council whose election was also invalidated – replied in a press release that the judges had “a lack of knowledge of the regional culture and the level of general education”.
The Council of State will be seized
The two elected officials announced that they intended to seize the Council of State and that they did not give up in the meantime “the continuation of the work” of local elected officials. The examination of this litigation by the Council of State should not intervene before the electoral deadlines of this year.
Mansour Kamardine and his pair had beaten by 38 votes in June 2021 their opponents without a label, but close to the LREM, Mariam Saïd Kalame and Mohamed Assani Abdou, who had challenged this result in court.
