Jürgen Trittin, where does the hatred for the Greens come from?

Tumults, blockades, punctured tires: the Greens are increasingly becoming targets. A conversation with the party’s veteran star about the events in Biberach, uninhibited rhetoric and threats against MPs.

Mister Trittin, You gave up your Bundestag mandate at the turn of the year after 25 years. The political Ash Wednesday in Biberach should have been a farewell on a big stage. It became a disaster because of the farmers’ protests. How do you remember that day?
Unfortunately in an ugly way. But that didn’t come as a surprise. We knew something was coming. The district association had warned me that there would be massive mobilization in the right-wing scene. On WhatsApp alone there were three chat groups with up to 1000 participants. We knew that – but the Baden-Württemberg police apparently didn’t want to know. When I was woken up that night in the hotel by sirens and horns, it was clear to me: Now they are coming.
