Jurgen Klopp will miss Liverpool’s upcoming league game due to suspension.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will face a ban on the touchline at the weekend after the FA won an appeal against an initial decision to only fine him for disorderly conduct.
Klopp was sent off for his effusive complaint to officials during the Reds’ 1-0 win over Manchester City last month after Bernardo Silva’s physical altercation with Mohamed Salah went unpunished.
The Germany manager was fined £30,000 by an independent commission for the incident, but the English Football Association (FA) appealed the ruling, leaving Klopp with a one-game ban on the touchline.
“An independent Appellate Body has upheld the FA’s appeal against an independent Regulatory Commission’s sanction in relation to the recent Jurgen Klopp case,” the FA said in a statement.
“As a result, the Liverpool manager has been suspended for one game from the touchline with immediate effect, fined £30,000 and warned about his future conduct.
Jurgen Klopp has already admitted breaching FA Rule E3 during the Premier League match against Manchester City FC on Sunday 16 October 2022 and has been fined £30,000.”
Southampton visit Anfield on Saturday and play their first game under new manager Nathan Jones.
Assistant coach Pep Lijnders will manage Liverpool from the touchline in Klopp’s absence.
