One of the most famous comics is coming back to the cinema: the voracious cat Garfield. Its inventor works as a producer on the film – and a Hollywood superstar lends him his voice.

From dangerous dinosaurs to a voracious tomcat: “Jurassic World” star Chris Pratt (42) is said to lend his voice to the famous cartoon tomcat Garfield.

The US actor (“Guardians of the Galaxy”, “The Tomorrow War”) will take on the voice role in the planned animated film, the industry papers “Hollywood Reporter” and “Variety” reported on Monday. The film without a title is directed by Mark Dindal (“Heaven and Chicken”).

Garfield creator Jim Davis, 76, is serving as executive producer. In 1978, the cartoonist came up with the grouchy cat who loves lasagna and shuns any movement. Garfield has become one of the world’s most popular comics, he’s long been a television star and had his first cinema appearances in 2004 and 2006.

In the live-action film “Garfield” (2004) with actors Breckin Meyer as owner Jon and Jennifer Love Hewitt as veterinarian Liz, Bill Murray set the animated tomcat to music. In the German version, Thomas Gottschalk was Garfield’s voice.

Pratt previously worked as a vocal talent in animated films such as “The Lego Movie” and “Onward: No half measures”. In 2022 he returns to the screen alongside Bryce Dallas Howard in the dinosaur spectacle “Jurassic World: Dominion”.
