Joy and sorrow were particularly close together in the new episode of the jungle camp. Markus Mörl had to go, Verena Kerth got engaged.

Even in season 16, RTL still manages to surprise with the jungle camp. In the episode of January 21, the viewers saw an engagement in addition to the usual show components such as the jungle test. In addition, with Markus Mörl (63), another candidate from “I’m a star – get me out of here!” (also on RTL+) saying goodbye.

Between riot and love

Saturday’s episode didn’t start harmoniously. After a loud argument from the previous evening, there was an icy mood between Tessa Bergmeier (33) and Cecilia Asoro (26) while brushing their teeth. Bergmeier sought a clarifying conversation: “Would you like to have a chat afterwards?” She thinks it’s “a total shame what happened yesterday”. Asoro had accused the model of talking to her like a baby and the reality star felt “triggered”. The whole thing quickly escalated and Bergmeier stomped away screaming.

Asoro approached Bergmeier in peace and she “freaked out completely, accused me of being aggressive”. But that wasn’t her, said the 26-year-old. And that’s also “the big problem. I apologize for what happened yesterday, 0.0 percent, because you’re completely crazy.” The situation escalated again. There was even speculation among the fellow campers as to whether there might still be fisticuffs between the two. Djamila Rowe (55), who is “a person of harmony”, tried to settle more or less in vain.

“Not that people think we’re such a riot station,” moderator Sonja Zietlow (54) and her colleague Jan Köppen (39) then led with a wink to a much more enjoyable single player. The broadcaster only showed the farewell to Verena Kerth (41), who had received the message the night before that she was the first celebrity to leave the show. Kerth was taken to a beach where she was greeted by her boyfriend Marc Terenzi (44) with a picnic and a bouquet of flowers. He pulled out an engagement ring, got on his knees and proposed to her on TV. Although Kerth had lost her chance at the jungle crown, she was still able to beam into the camera: “I like the title ‘Frau Terenzi’ better than the jungle queen, I really like to exchange it.”

The next food test

The eleven remaining celebrities were allowed to choose for the first time who should take part in the jungle test. With “No meat, no price” Jolina Mennen (30) and Mörl expected another food test. The menu included pig brains and camel lungs. The YouTuber and the NDW singer did their best, but were only able to earn four out of eleven possible stars in the test.

Due to several rule violations, the celebrity campers then had to give up all other luxury items. Lucas Cordalis (55) and Papis Loveday (46) walked through the camp alone at night, Claudia Effenberg (57) did not plug in her microphone and Cosimo Citiolo (41) fell asleep by the fire. Jana Pallaske (43) had the most relaxed reaction to the punishment: “If you let go, you are free. This overconsumption is also massively destroying our earth.”

At the end of the episode it was finally clear that Mörl had to go. “I would be happy to stay longer,” he had previously said. But then he seemed very composed about the end. The singer encouraged the others: “Keep fighting, people, keep fighting.”
