US President Joe Biden has appointed one of his White House advisers, Julie Chávez Rodríguez, as campaign manager. The 45-year-old is a “trustworthy and long-time” supporter of the Democrats, said Biden’s campaign team for the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday.
Chávez Rodríguez previously worked in the White House as director for federal-local government cooperation. She spoke to governors, mayors and local officials across the country. The Latina already worked for the Bidens campaign team in the 2020 presidential election. She is a longtime advocate for women’s and labor rights and is a strong advocate for Latinos, it said.
After Biden’s appointment, Chávez will become Rodríguez according to US news channel CBS News campaign from headquarters, which will be located either in Wilmington, the president’s hometown of Delaware, or in nearby Philadelphia, where Biden launched his 2020 campaign. Both cities are not far from the capital Washington.
Good connection to the vice president
According to CBS, the strategic decisions and coordination of the president’s official appointments and the campaign are expected to be made primarily by a group of senior advisors who are likely to split their time between the White House and the campaign.
Chávez Rodríguez is currently the senior Hispanic official in the West Wing and one of the few Latinas to have risen so high on a presidential staff. Three years ago, she also worked for then-Senator Kamala Harris’ team, which gave her an important connection to the future vice president, according to CBS News.
Joe Biden declared on Tuesday that he wanted to run for a second term in next year’s election. The Democrat won the 2020 presidential election against then-Republican incumbent Donald Trump. The 80-year-old has been in office since January 2021 and was the oldest president ever to enter the White House.
