Exactly why he had to die remains uncertain: the cause of death of actor Julian Sands is classified as “unexplained”.

The actor’s cause of death Julian Sands (1958-2023) has been classified as “unsolved” by the police. The Briton had not returned from a hike in the Southern California mountains in January. His body was not found in the hiking area until June 24. After five months in the wild, the remains apparently no longer provide any clues as to why Sands died.

Classification is final

Opposite “People” a public relations officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Monday (July 24) that the cause of death could not be determined. “Unresolved” is entered in the death certificate, this classification is final. The official therefore clarified that the cause of death was undetermined “due to the condition of the body” and that this was normal when handling cases of this type.

He has been missing since mid-January

The actor, best known for roles in “Ocean’s 13” and “Leaving Las Vegas,” had been missing since the beginning of the year. He was last seen leaving for a hike in the mountains north of Los Angeles. Sands never returned and was reported missing in mid-January. He was considered an avid hiker and mountaineer. Local authorities warned hikers not to try to climb Mount San Antonio in January. The conditions at the time were “extremely dangerous” due to strong winds, storms, snow and ice. The local emergency services were therefore alerted 14 times in the previous month because of missing or injured people.

Several searches were unsuccessful. Then, around 10:00 am on June 24, hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after discovering human remains in the wilderness on the mountain in California. Police forces then recovered the body and transferred it to the coroner. At this point, it was already suspected that it could be Sands. This was confirmed by the Californian San Bernardino County coroner on June 27th.
