Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern: The single man – sport

Is it bad if Julian Nagelsmann only becomes German champion in his first year in Munich? With casual sayings and daring lineups, the coach coaches on a fine line – but they do not doubt his basic suitability in the club.

There are many pretty stories in the big book of coaching. It’s an excellent book for quick enjoyment, with plenty of episodes to flick through to enjoy with the superior chuckle of a true connoisseur. What was Jogi Löw thinking when he rebuilt the team in the 2012 European Championship semifinals in such a way that they no longer recognized themselves? What happened to Pep Guardiola in the 2014 Champions League semi-finals when he put Javi Martinez on the bench and willfully cleared Bayern midfield? And why on earth for God’s sake did England coach Gareth Southgate sin against the psychology of the game in the 2021 EURO final by letting youngsters who had just come on as a substitute, for whom he had had no use before, take penalties?
