The way Julia Fischer impressively demonstrated in Peter Tchaikovsky’s “Sérénade mélancolique” that romantic music first requires clarity of phrasing, clarity of articulation, rhythmic precision and, in interaction with the orchestra, symphonic spirit was immediately convincing.
