JR: Chronicles – the French artist in the Kunsthalle München – Munich

Of

Evelyn Vogel, Munich

He was young, he was naive – and he was curious. Curious about the urban space and its social discourse, about other people that one does not usually meet in museums and institutions but on the streets, in impoverished suburbs, in the slums of this world and in border regions. And so it came about that a young Frenchman, who until then had seen himself as a rather “mediocre graffiti artist” and “completely clueless photographer” (original sound JR), under the initials JR became a street art artist recognized worldwide and now celebrated with museum exhibitions -became an artist. His work can currently be seen in a retrospective entitled “JR: Chronicles” at the Munich Kunsthalle.
