Journalism and Politics: How Much Proximity is Appropriate?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy hugged a journalist at a press conference. A proximity between journalism and politics that would never be possible in Germany. Here is the distance monstrance.

The other day Volodymyr Zelenskyy was giving a press conference in London when a Ukrainian reporter from the BBC stood up and said: “I want to thank you and give you a hug. But it’s not allowed.” The Ukrainian President then approached the reporter and said: “Why? Come here and hug me.” Shortly thereafter, she was already holding Zelenskyj in her arms, accompanied by the applause of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and some journalists in the room.
