He that is without sin among you, be the first to throw a stone; That’s what Jesus says in the Gospel of John. One can perhaps not claim that with his statement to the abuse victims of the Church, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. cast that first stone; there is much talk of shame and guilt. But if you put the rhetoric of contrition aside, the old denial remains.
