One of the founding members of La Compagnie Créole is no more. The group and label Productions Martin Leclerc announced on Sunday on Facebook the death of José Sébéloué, at the age of 74. The singer, one of the five members of the original group, had success with his group in the 1980s thanks to the famous hits: It’s good for morale or At the masked ball. José Sébéloué is the only member of the group not to have been born in Martinique or Guadeloupe. The singer, also a guitarist, was born in 1948 in Guyana and founded his first group, Pop Corn.

Also a fan of percussion, he founded La Compagnie Créole in 1975. A craze was created around the group and several hits were very well received by the public and became classics.
With twenty albums and several million records sold, La Compagnie Créole continues to perform in concert, especially abroad. Their last tour was to be held in Quebec, but it was canceled, the musicians having come to the bedside of José Sébéloué.
