Jorge Vilda, the coach of the world champions, should be dismissed

The case of Jorge Vilda was not at the heart of the meeting of the presidents of the regional federations convened on Monday by Pedro Rocha, the interim president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The urgency was to ask for the resignation of Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF bogged down in the “Hermoso scandal”. But the situation of the coach of the Spanish world champions should be studied next week, just like that of his male counterpart Luis de la Fuente.

According to Sport, if the latter should retain his position, it is not the same for Vilda, despite the recent conquest of the first planetary title of the girls of La Roja, on August 20 in Australia. According to the Barcelona daily, if the 42-year-old technician continued his mission started in 2015, no world champion would go to the next summons.

15 players had already boycotted the selection in September 2022, pointing among other things to the authoritarian behavior of their coach. Three of them (Aitana Bonmati, Mariona Caldentey and Ona Battle) had however been recalled to compete in the World Cup.

He distanced himself from Rubiales

The coach had applauded Rubiales during the RFEF president’s last surreal press conference on Friday, during which he promised an extension and a big salary increase for Vilda, under contract until 2024. No doubt feeling the wind turn, the latter had distanced himself the next day, by publishing a press release to denounce the behavior of Rubiales, while six people in his management had already resigned. Vilda was also accused of touching the chest of a staff member during the World Cup final against England.

According to Sporta federal meeting must still discuss the terms, including legal, of the ousting of the coach of the Spanish, who could be replaced by the former international Sonia Bermúdez (38 years old).
